PhD position: Magnetic resonance image guided biomechanical modelling of the heart to predict remodeling in heart failure

The research project focusses on the patient specific biomechanical simulation of adverse myocardial remodeling towards heart failure. For this project cutting edge cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging methodology is deployed in pre-clinical as well as clinical setting. The comprehensive set of input data shall be joined to a digital model of the patient’s heart to investigate its mechanical burden and derive an image guided and biomechanically motivated long term prognosis.

The University and ETH Zurich offer an international and world-leading research setting with first class infrastructure including the full range of clinical and experimental Magnetic Resonance systems as well as an excellent collaboration with the University Hospital Zurich with access to large patient cohorts.

The candidate holds a Master of Science degree in computer science, electrical engineering, biomedical engineering, mechanical engineering or physics with first class grades. She/he should present with a keen interest in biomechanics, image processing, advanced visualization, finite element methods and numerical simulation. Very good programming skills (Matlab/Python, MeVisLab, C++) and interest in both theoretical and practical work are a premise. An innovative spirit and team player skills round off the profile.
