Three postdoctoral-fellow positions are available at Xiamen University (XMU). XMU was the first university to be founded by an overseas Chinese in the history of modern Chinese education. XMU has long been listed among China’s leading universities on the national "211 Project" and "985 Project" which ensure privileged support for its sustainable and strategic development. Xiamen University Malaysia Campus is the first overseas branch campus established by a prestigious Chinese university. With a graduate school, 6 academic divisions consisting of 27 schools and colleges with 76 departments, and 14 research institutes, XMU boasts a total enrollment of nearly 40,000 full-time students (including 1,700 international students), i.e. 20,000 undergraduates, 17,000 graduate students toward a master’s degree, 3,000 doctoral candidates. XMU currently has a faculty of over 2,500 full-time teachers and researchers, of whom 22 are the members of the Chinese Academy of Sciences or of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (including 9 employed simultaneously by other institutions), 59 are on the list of China’s Recruitment Program of Global Experts, also known as "1000 Talent Plan" (25 of whom are on the Scheme of Recruitment Program for Young Experts), and 34 professors are Distinguished or Chair Professors on the Changjiang Scholars' Program.

This position involves the expectation and opportunity to become a Visiting Scholar at the University of Leeds (UOL). Position Description/Roles and Responsibilities

The research projects will focus on the intersection of surgical data deep processing, surgical vision, navigation, and robotics. As Postdoctoral Fellow, you will to work with a team that conceptualizes, designs, and develops all novel algorithms and user interfaces for computer assisted diagnosis and intervention systems. You will have significant experience in working with all algorithms, software, and hardware aspects of surgical navigation and robotic systems and devices. You will develop new algorithms and software implementations in surgical data, vision, navigation, and robotics in a cross-functional team.

You will be employed by Xiamen University and work at the Research Centre for Digital Medical Technology. However, pending immigration clearance, you will also carry out extended research visits and carry out collaborative research as Visiting Scholar at the School of Computing of the University of Leeds within the Centre for Computational Imaging & Simulation Technologies in Biomedicine (CISTIB, www.cistib.org).

Essential Requirements

  • PhD in information or computer science, electrical, biomedical or mechanical engineering, or related research focus on surgical data processing/medical image computing, surgical vision, navigation and robotics.
  • Extensive experience in high-performance programming with C++/Matlab/Python
  • Demonstrated record of high-quality publications in the field.

Research Duties and Responsibilities

  • To publish in high quality journals and to present data at national and involvement and attendance at international meetings
  • To report research activities according to the requirements of the projects
  • To actively participate in the research programme of the group
  • To participate in group research meetings and internal seminars
  • Contribute to bids for research grants
  • To conduct data analysis
  • To ensure the validity and reliability of data at all times
  • To maintain accurate and complete records of all findings
  • To attend relevant workshops and conferences as necessary
  • To maintain highly organised and accurate record of experimental work
  • Help to supervise undergraduate and postgraduate research students and research assistants as required
