Postdoc in image analysis / ML for brain imaging with 3D infrared scanning (MGH / Harvard Medical School)
Wednesday 6th January 2021
Open until Filled
A postdoctoral position in reconstruction and image analysis of human brain volumes using 3D infrared scanning and machine learning (funded by the NIH) is available for immediate application at the Laboratory for Computational Neuroimaging, Martinos Center for Biomedical Imaging, Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) and Harvard Medical School.
The Laboratory for Computational Neuroimaging (LCN) is seeking to fill a postdoctoral position in image analysis as part of an exciting 5-year NIH project titled: “Diagnosing the undiagnosable: studies of Alzheimer disease mimics and confounders via ‘neuropathometry’ of dissection photos with 3D scanning”, awarded to Dr. J. Eugenio Iglesias. The project, which is a collaboration with two Alzheimer’s Disease Research Centers (ADRC) at MGH and the University of Washington, aims to create machine learning tools that: 1. Combine 3D infrared scans of human brain samples and dissection photographs to produce 3D datasets; and 2. Produce morphometric measurements from the reconstructed datasets, including segmentation / volumetry, cortical thickness, etc. These tools will be used by the collaborating ADRCs to study Alzheimer’s Disease mimics, and will also be made publicly available to the research community by integrating them into FreeSurfer – the open-source suite distributed by the LCN, which has approximately 50,000 worldwide licenses.
We are seeking a talented and enthusiastic postdoctoral researcher to develop machine learning and image analysis methods for this project. The postholder will work with Dr. Iglesias and other LCN members to develop the new tools; with clinicians and technicians at MGH and the University of Washington; and with a software engineer to integrate the tools with FreeSurfer. The postholder will also interact with other collaborators at University College London and the Polytechnic University of Madrid (Spain).
Applicants should have:
- A Ph.D. degree in computer vision, neuroimaging, or biomedical engineering/image analysis. Applicants with degrees in related areas (e.g., Engineering, Physics, Applied Mathematics) will also be considered. Applicants close to submission of their PhD thesis will be considered as well.
- Strong mathematical and problem-solving abilities.
- Expertise in programming, at least with high-level languages / packages (Python, PyTorch, Tensorflow).
- An established publication track record.
- Ideally, experience with one/some of the following: neuroimaging, deep learning, image registration.
The position is available as of January 2021, but the start date is flexible. Applications will be reviewed as they arrive. The duration of the contract is two years, with possibility of further extension.
For applications, please send the following documents to firstname.lastname@example.org:
- A cover letter (maximum 1 page)
- CV (maximum 4 pages)
