Case Western Reserve University and University Hospitals invite applicants for a research associate position in the areas of medical image computing and artificial intelligence in the context of cardiovascular diseases.
The candidate will be positioned to work between the Center of Computational Imaging and Personalized Diagnostics (CCIPD) at Case Western Reserve University and the Center for Advanced Heart and Vascular Care, the world’s first integrated high-volume imaging center with CT and MR juxtaposed with a cardiovascular interventional hybrid suite. This position will give promising researchers an opportunity for academic development and independence. The chosen candidate will have extensive exposure to robust automated digital diagnostic environment based on digital image processing, artificial intelligence/machine learning for cardiovascular applications and in particular CT and MRI approaches to enhance knowledge sharing and reach better‐informed clinical decision making. Representative project will include i) Automated analysis of non-gated CTs and Cardiac MRI data sets, for cardiovascular decision making, ii) Juxtaposition of CT and MRI datasets with relevant clinical parameters to improve accuracy of the test and enable automated decision making. iii) Novel approaches to integrate image data sets in the hybrid OR environment for robotic applications.
CCIPD houses over 60 members including seven faculty members developing new technology in the fields of digital pathology, radiomics, radiogenomics, and image guided interventions. In the past five years, the center has received awards amounting to over $40M in federal, state and industry funding, published >200 peer reviewed papers and generated over 100 patents awarded or pending. The Center for Advanced Heart and Vascular care (CAHVC) is a futuristic academic-corporate partnership with Siemens and Medtronic to develop the next generation of innovative technologies that combine imaging with intervention guided by robotics and artificial intelligence. The Center is linked to a Translational Sciences Unit with >$10 million dollars in funding from NIH and industry. The Center is home to fully staffed exercise MRI units, capable of performing state of the art cardiopulmonary exercise testing in the MRI environment combined with state-of-the-art next generation genomics approaches for that will redefine personalized medicine. The CAHVC routinely uses state of the art non-invasive CT approaches for assessment of form and function. Finally the Center is home to the world’s largest no-charge CT Calcium Scoring Registry (CLARIFY) linked to patient outcomes. Together, the CCIPD and CAHVC provide an unprecedented opportunity for talented and entrepreneurial scientists looking to contribute to defining the next generation of personalized medicine approaches.
Basic Qualifications: Ph.D. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline with experience in Computer Vision, Machine Learning, or Image Understanding domain, along with successful demonstration of key responsibilities. Prior knowledge about medical imaging is a plus but not a must.
Desirable Qualifications: Strong theoretical and practical background in computer vision, image and video analysis, such as object detection and recognition, statistical pattern recognition, machine learning, sparse methods and applied optimization. Enthusiasm in solving real world clinical imaging problems using large datasets, and hands-on coding skills and ability in Python, C++ and Matlab and one or more deep learning frameworks (ie. PyTorch, TensorFlow, Keras).
