Opening for Research Assistant Professor in Computational Imaging and Machine Learning

The Center for Computational Imaging and Personalized Diagnostics at Case Western Reserve University houses three full time faculty members developing new technology in the fields of neuroimaging, digital pathology, radiomics and image guided interventions. Representative projects in the center include distinguishing recurrent brain tumors from post-radiation changes, planning surgical margins in patients undergoing excision for rectal cancers using MRI, predicting the need of adjuvant chemotherapy for breast cancer, lung cancer, and head&neck patients, amongst many others. The lab works on different patient cohorts, ranging from cancers like lung, breast, rectal, brain, head and neck, to benign pathologies like glomerulopathies, cardiac failure, and inflammatory bowel diseases.

In the past 7 years, the center has rapidly grown, now boasting over 60 members including faculty, staff, graduate and undergraduate students and post-doctoral researchers. The center members have received a number of awards from the NIH, DOD and the VA amounting to over $44M in federal, state and industry funding. Center members have published high impact papers in Lancet Oncology, Clinical Cancer Research, Nature Reviews Clinical Oncology and Nature Reviews Drug Discovery and been awarded 50 patents.

The center offers an intellectually challenging environment for researchers to develop and apply image-computing solutions to highly translational and clinically relevant problems in oncology, cardiology, nephrology and neurology. Students and postdocs work closely with clinical collaborators, including radiologists, pathologists, medical oncologists, urologists, surgeons, and radiation oncologists. The CWRU campus is located in the heart of Cleveland’s University Circle, and is within a 10-minute walk of 3 nationally and internationally renowned healthcare institutions: University Hospitals, Cleveland Clinic Foundation, and the Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center. CCIPD researchers also work closely with a number of cancer diagnostic and medical imaging companies on industry sponsored research projects.

The research assistant professor will take the lead on major cutting-edge multi-disciplinary projects which will lead to the development and validation of image analytic, machine learning, and deep learning algorithms for clinical applications. He/she will also primarily responsible for teaching and mentoring graduate and undergraduate students and work in close collaboration with the post-docs in the lab. Applicants must have a Ph.D. degree, a high-quality record of publications in research in high impact journals and a demonstrated ability to generate outside funding. A successful candidate would have a PhD degree in Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related field and a demonstrable record of accomplishment in medical image analysis, neuroimaging, computer vision, and image registration and feature extraction. 

Salary range: $60,000 - $75,000
