The Center for Computational Imaging and Personalized Diagnostics (CCIPD) at Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) and the Ophthalmic Imaging Center (OIC) at the Cleveland Clinic are seeking a research associate with interest and expertise in radiomics and machine learning in the context of precision medicine for retinal diseases.
CCIPD houses three full time faculty members developing new technology in the fields of digital pathology, radiomics, radiogenomics, and image guided interventions. In the past four years, the center has rapidly grown, now boasting over 35 members including faculty, staff, graduate and undergraduate students and post-doctoral researchers. In the past year, the members have received awards amounting to over $10M in federal, state and industry funding. Center members published over 30 peer-reviewed papers and had 10 patents issued in 2016 alone.
The CCIPD offers an intellectually stimulating environment for students and postdocs to develop and apply image-computing solutions to highly translational and clinically relevant problems. Students and postdocs work closely with the clinical collaborators, including radiologists, pathologists, surgeons, and medical, and radiation oncologists. The CWRU campus is located in the heart of Cleveland, and is within a 10 minute walk or drive of 4 nationally and internationally renowned medical centers: University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center, Cleveland Clinic, MetroHealth Medical Center and Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center. CCIPD researchers also work closely with a number of diagnostic and medical imaging companies on industry sponsored research projects.
The Ophthalmic Imaging Center at the Cole Eye Institute of the Cleveland Clinic was founded in 2011 to house and support the development of imaging technology for advancing diagnostics and therapeutics in ophthalmic disease. The OIC has been awarded a multi-million dollar innovation platform grant from the state of Ohio in addition to multiple NIH awards. The OIC houses multiple areas of active research and development. In particular, research labs focus on image-guided surgery, corneal biomechanics and disease modeling, advanced imaging research in inflammatory eye disease and uveitis, and advanced imaging research in vitreoretinal diseases, such as macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy. The Tony and Leona Campane Center for Excellence in Image-guided Surgery and Advanced Imaging Research was recently founded in 2017 to further support these key areas of development towards personalized and precision medicine. Cleveland Clinic is one of the leading hospitals in the country has been ranked No. 1 in eye care in the state of Ohio by U.S. News and World Report. Resources include large team of clinical imaging experts, rich datasets of image collections from multiple disease categories, large blood biorepositories, extensive patient databases, and experts in the field of vitreoretinal disease.
The research associate will be working on development of image analytic/machine learning algorithms for clinical applications in vitreoretinal diseases. Applicants must have a Ph.D. degree and have demonstrated excellent qualifications in research. A successful candidate would have a PhD degree in in Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related field and a demonstrable record of accomplishment in medical image analysis, neuroimaging, computer vision, and image registration and feature extraction. Experience in MATLAB and C++ programming is required.
